director synopsis - Martin Scorsese




Martin Scorsese was born on November 17, 1942, in New York City, to Italian-American parents Catherine and Charles Scorsese. He was raised in Little Italy, which later provided the inspiration for several of his films.



Scorsese earned a B.S. degree in film communications in 1964, followed by an M.A. in the same field in 1966, both were obtained at New York University's School of Film. During his time at film school, he made numerous prize-winning short films including 'The Big Shave' (1968), and directed his first feature film, 'Who's That Knocking at My Door' (1967).
Scorsese boasts an impressive portfolio of work that includes ( but is not limited to!);

Martin Scorsese and actor Robert DiNiro have frequently collaborated throughout their careers, making a grand total of eight films together since 1973.Most of the pair's films were of the crime genre; many of which have since been considered to be some of  the greatest films of all time.

As a director he often gives his films a certain stamp that will mark them out as his. He often, begins his films with segments taken from the middle or end of the story (Raging Bull,Goodfellas, Casino),Scorsese frequently sets his film in New York City, and they will often include unflinchingly graphic and realistic violence.
