Evalutaion Q7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I feel that there was a definite progression in my standard of work from the preliminary task to the main task. In my opinion, it's because I now have a clearer understanding of how important the pre production phase is to any film project that I might undertake in the future. By looking at where I went wrong in the prelim task and then using this as a starting point for our final piece, it worked better when it came to the filming and editing elements of our task.

Pre-Production

To avoid the mistakes I made in the prelim in the new task we divided the work load up between the group, once everyone had completed what they were meant to we then came back and discussed what we liked and what we didn't like. This allowed us to take things we all like into consideration as a group and then move forward and put in place the ideas we all agreed on. Once we had completed this stage we were able to create a pack that included everything that needed to be done fo our final piece from a shot list to a logistics table, so that the shoot would run smoothly on the day.

Production

In the preliminary task we used our friends as the cast and crew members, this negatively impacted the outcome of our prelim task as it prolonged our filming time meaning that we had poor lighting and our film didn't come out too well. For the man task we had only one cast member and my group and I did all of the crew work in order to be as efficient as possible, this ended up being a successful plan as it meant we could carry out our shoot in a time efficient manner.

Post Production

When it came to using the computer software, it was different because in the preliminary task we just focused on match on action, shot, reverse shot, continuity and not breaking the 180 degree, all of which only required a simple knowledge of how to use final cut pro.When it came to the main task we still  focused on these aspects but we also had to create a narrative. to do this we used final cut pro to add different transition effects as well as a voiceover, these are skills that I learnt in my development from the prelim to the main task. Before in the preliminary task we did not do any colour grading as it was not needed, this was another progression that I made from the prelim to the main task. I know know many more things than i did before, for example I can use colour on the mac, I can use different effects on final cut pro and I also know how to successfully put together a full treatment for a film.
